What’s Going on at GDS – July 2026

Blog

July was a memorable month at GDS Wealth Management. From our largest client event to date to the launch of our refreshed brand, July reflected what has always been at the heart of GDS: serving clients goes far beyond managing investments. It means building lasting relationships, providing meaningful education, sharing timely market insights, and continually looking for ways to better serve the families who place their trust in us.

Whether through client experiences, educational events, market commentary, or new resources, our goal remains the same: helping people make financial decisions with greater confidence.

Our Largest Client Event Yet

One of the highlights of the month was hosting our largest client appreciation event to date at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The evening brought together clients, families, and the GDS team for an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, music, and gratitude.

Comedian Kirk Smith opened the evening with a performance that had clients and staff laughing throughout his set. Four of Nashville’s most accomplished singer-songwriters—Wendell Mobley, Chris DeStefano, Trannie Anderson, and JT Harding—then took the stage. Collectively responsible for numerous No. 1 country hits, the songwriters performed many of the songs they’ve written while sharing the stories and inspiration behind them. Hearing these talented songwriters perform their hit songs and share the stories behind them created a truly unique experience.

Events like these remind us that wealth management is ultimately about people and relationships. While financial planning happens in the office, lasting relationships are often strengthened through shared experiences like these. Learn more here.

A New Look for GDS

July also marked one of our biggest milestones of the year as we unveiled a refreshed GDS brand, including a new website and visual identity designed to create an even better experience for our clients. The refresh reflects months of work by our team to elevate nearly every aspect of the GDS experience while staying true to who we are.

While our appearance has evolved, our commitment remains exactly the same. We continue to serve as a fee-only fiduciary focused on thoughtful financial planning, investment management, and helping families navigate life’s most important financial decisions with greater clarity and confidence. We hope the refreshed brand better reflects the personalized service, professionalism, and attention to detail our clients have come to expect from GDS.

From Glen’s Desk: Market Perspective on BNN Bloomberg

Recently, Glen Smith, Founder, CEO & CIO of GDS Wealth Management, joined BNN Bloomberg to share his perspective on current market conditions. During the interview, Glen discussed today’s market environment, highlighted several companies he’s watching, and shared his take on why maintaining a disciplined, long-term investment approach remains important despite short-term market noise.

Continuing to Build Our Learning Center

Our commitment to financial education continued throughout July with new articles, videos, podcasts, and market updates designed to help individuals and families make more informed financial decisions.

One featured Retirement Blueprint episode, “5 Mistakes to Avoid Before Selling Your Business,” explores five planning decisions that may significantly influence the outcome of a business sale. Glen discusses topics including tax strategies, estate planning, liquidity planning, investment management, and protecting wealth after the transaction, highlighting why thoughtful preparation well before a sale may make a meaningful difference.

We also released a new episode of GDS Unplugged, “How High-Income Couples Stay Financially Aligned (And Avoid Costly Mistakes),” featuring Victoria Geiger, CFP®, alongside Robert Casey. Together, they discuss one of the most important topics many couples face: money. The conversation explores practical ways high-income couples can communicate more effectively about finances, align on long-term goals, and avoid common mistakes that may create unnecessary stress or disrupt financial progress.

These are just two of the many educational resources we published throughout the month. From market updates and retirement planning insights to podcasts, blogs, and short-form educational videos, our goal is to provide practical guidance that helps you make financial decisions with greater confidence. Explore our latest resources in the GDS Learning Center.

Helping Our Community Plan for Retirement

Helping people make informed financial decisions remains an important part of our mission. During July, GDS hosted two complimentary retirement planning workshops at the Flower Mound Public Library. These educational seminars were open to the community and focused on helping attendees better understand retirement planning, income strategies, tax considerations, and long-term financial planning.

Whether someone becomes a client or simply leaves with additional information to consider as they plan for their financial future, we believe providing financial education is always worthwhile.

Looking Ahead

Every month brings new opportunities to strengthen relationships, educate our community, and continue raising the standard of service we provide. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust our clients place in us and for everyone who joined us at our events and educational programs throughout July.

Whether you’re a longtime client or just beginning to think about your financial future, we’re honored to be part of your financial journey. If there’s ever anything we can do to help you or your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
